The Galcon 6156-DC6S timer is a reliable product with long cables and multiple watering options. However, it only works with 12 volt solenoids, not the standard 24 volt solenoids that come with hardwired valves. It also requires a good industrial strength alkaline battery that should be removed over winter. It is advised to use the same brand for replacement of solenoids. The timer operates well, but it is unclear whether it will withstand a wet winter. Any rain sensor may be used with this timer, and it can be connected to a 24vdc diaphragm pump with an adapter.
