Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question : Does it require a Z-Wave hub?
Answer : Yes, a Z-Wave hub is required.
  • Question : What are the power requirements?
Answer : It is battery powered.
  • Question : What is the size of the sensor?
Answer : It measures 1.38 inches.
  • Question : Can this be installed outdoors under a wide overhang?
Answer : Yes, as long as the sensor is not exposed to rain or weather. Outdoor installation would be fine as long as the overhang protects the unit.
  • Question : Did aeotec blindly google "convert 0.4 celsius to fahrenheit" and put it on the box or is the fahrenheit accuracy really plus/minus 32.72 degrees?
Answer : The device registers one significant digit behind the decimal. The Fahrenheit accuracy is not plus/minus 32.72 degrees.
  • Question : Can I hardwire this sensor? Is there USB power in?
Answer : If you are skilled with fabrication and small electronics, you can connect an external power supply. Soldering would be required. However, there is no externally accessible USB port.
  • Question : Does this work with Abode that supports Z-wave plus?
Answer : It paired with my Homeseer Z-wave plus system without any issues. I am not sure about Abode compatibility.
  • Question : One place in the item description claims it can read down to 14°F, yet in another place the lower end of its range is 0°C. So which is it?
Answer : The device contains two sensors with the following accuracy measures: Relative Humidity - precision +/- 3% RH (max), range 0 to 80% RH | Temperature - precision +/- 0.4°C (max), range 0 to 65°C
  • Question : Does this work with a SmartThings 2nd Gen hub?
Answer : Yes, I have successfully used this with a Smart Things v2 hub.
  • Question : Will the temp sensor function below 0°C/32°F? Will it malfunction or just unable to measure and report below that?
Answer : The lowest temperature seen so far is 35 degrees Fahrenheit, and it worked fine at that level.
  • Question : Will this work with Ring?
Answer : I use it through my Z-wave Hubitat network. I am not sure if you can use it in a Ring network.

AEOTEC Accessories Editorial Review

The Aeotec aërQ ZWave temperature, humidity, dew point sensor offers a wireless and battery-powered solution for monitoring temperature and humidity in your home. It requires a Z-Wave hub for integration and is compatible with SmartThings and Homeseer hubs. In terms of installation, the sensor can be placed outdoors as long as it is protected from rain and weather. However, it should be noted that the humidity should not Consistently exceed 80%. The device features a precision of ±0.4°C for temperature and ±3% RH for humidity. Some users have reported difficulty in setting up the sensor and pairing it with their hub. The QR code on the back of the sensor is not always recognized, and there have been instances of devices being added with errors. However, these issues were minor and quickly resolved. One major drawback mentioned by users is the slow update rate of the temperature values and the lack of temperature display on certain hub platforms. The sensors are reported to update every 5 minutes but often show the same value for several hours before jumping to a different temperature reading. This inConsistency and delay can be frustrating for users relying on real-time temperature data for automations. On the positive side, users have praised the aesthetics and compact size of the sensors. They are also satisfied with the battery usage, as the devices have not dropped below 100% after a week of use. It's important to note that one user discovered that the sensors have default settings that can greatly affect their performance. By adjusting the reporting thresholds and frequency through Z-Wave integration, the sensors can provide more accurate and timely updates. This adjustment improved the user's experience with the sensors. Overall, the Aeotec aërQ ZWave temperature, humidity, dew point sensor is a decent option for monitoring temperature and humidity in your home. While there have been some issues with setup and slow temperature updates, the sensors offer good precision and are aesthetically pleasing.

Pros

  • Wireless and battery-powered
  • Compact and aesthetically pleasing design
  • Good precision in temperature and humidity measurements
  • Can be installed outdoors under a protected overhang

Cons

  • Slow temperature updates and inConsistencies in reporting
  • Difficulty in setting up and pairing with a hub
  • Inaccurate battery level reporting on certain hub platforms
