  Answer : It is smart for you to ask how many strains. Don’t believe the hype that ALL probiotic pills are dead on arrival. You can test any probiotic brand to see if it’s alive and active by opening 3-4 capsules, mixing powder in to a bowl containing 1/2 cup milk. Let sit 12-24 hrs in a warm spot and recheck. If the milk is curdled or has any change, then it’s active. If not, then it’s dead.

  Answer : I would not recommend adding to hot liquid as these microbes are alive and might be killed with hot/boiling liquids. Warm liquid would be okay.
