The life of the media can range depending on contaminants in the water and water usage. On average, the media will last about 2-4 years. For replacing the media, it's just the process of removing the media/water that is currently in the system by siphoning/shopvac and replacing it with the new.
- Question : Do I need a water storage tank and oxidizer with this system? Also what is difference in the media and how it works compared to Birm?Answer : This is a stand alone system and does not require anything additional to work. Adding an oxidizer will improve it's ability to treat, but it will treat at the stated levels without one. As far as how it works compared to Birm, it will remove hydrogen sulfide whereas Birm will not, and it will work in a wider range of water supplies than Birm will.
- Question : Will this work for iron bacteria? I have rotten egg smell and black slime buildup in my toilets?Answer : No, you generally do not want to use air injection for iron bacteria because the air can feed and grow the bacteria. For heavy iron bacteria, do chlorine injection first followed by an air injection or filox system.
- Question : Does this come prefilled with media?Answer : The KL system comes pre-loaded.
