Does it email pictures?

The unit requires programming to take pictures and video. You could probably add code to send email, but programming is required, unless you can find an example by searching online. It’s still not “plug and play”, requires some expertise and software tools to upload the programming code.

Where to get the sample code? The camera webserver example in the ide does not seem to work with this board.

Got the camera webserver example to work. The tricky part was programming it, because it doesn't seem to have a serial USB chip. We ended up bridging the pins to another ESP32 board so that we could connect to it via USB. Look at online forums for the details. In theory I think you should be able to do over the air wifi updates with the Arduino IDE, at least the 1.x version, if you can get onto wifi.

Which antenna is connected? I wish to use an external antenna. The pads to switch the antenna are too small for my soldering talents.

The on-board antenna is connected, to use external you have to unsolder and move the jumper to the other pads.
