- Question : Hey guys... seeing some people mentioning worms in the tumbler....is this ok in the UK as it shouldn't get too hot here?Answer : My 3 composters all use worms to help, they are not in direct sunlight and the worms seem to thrive. When I harvest my compost, I gather some worms to put in with the new leafy stuff, I also add some shredded cardboard/newspaper to address the carbon imbalance. I hope this helps. - Question : Can I put cooked foods, meat, plate waste, etc. in this unit?Answer : My strong recommendation is NO. Keep it just for vegetable matter. Meat, etc. should never be put in a compost heap.
- Question : Can you lock the drum after rotating?Answer : No. There is no lock on the sliding door but I’ve had no issues with it opening when I don’t want it to. It can be quite heavy to rotate as there’s no handle either, so you have to spin the drum with your hands and when it’s full it’s heavy.
- Question : Will the leaking fluids attract rats as I will have to include animal waste?Answer : It does not and has never leaked fluids. I am very happy with this product and would rate it 10 out of 10.

The IM4000 Dual Chamber Tumbling Composter is a decent option for those in areas without bear activity. It is easy to assemble and has a good capacity for grass cuttings and leaves. Winter usage is possible, but composting may slow down. To start the first batch, it is recommended to add a bit of soil along with a 50/50 mix of green and brown material. Harvesting compost is effective for light gardening needs or if you don't have space for a large compost pile. Balance is key to successful composting, with proper moisture levels and the addition of greens or browns as needed. The smaller compartments allow for undisturbed composting on one side while adding new materials on the other. Tumbling is achieved by pushing the bin using the diagonal inserts. Some items to avoid for a clean compost include proteins, grains, and oils. The legs of the composter are not stainless steel, but they are either galvanized or aluminum. Assembly can be time-consuming but not difficult with attention to detail and a powered driver.
