Carolyn Schlam Format: Kindle Edition Arts & Photography Editorial Review

"The Joy of Art" is a book that aims to teach readers how to look at, appreciate, and talk about art. Although some reviewers found the book to be more basic and introductory than they had hoped, others found it to be enormously useful, accessible, and enjoyable. However, it is worth mentioning that much of the information in the book is based on the author's opinion, which some readers found to be pretentious, one-sided, and too opinionated. The book is divided into two halves, with the first half focusing on philosophy about art, definitions, vocabulary, and general criteria, while the second half is divided into genres such as figurative, abstract, landscape, and still life. There are 149 illustrations in the book, but some readers felt that there was very little commentary on them, resulting in a lack of joy. Despite the mixed reception, the book has been praised as an excellent and informative introduction to learning and appreciating art. It has been recommended as a gift and a resource for high school art classes. However, there were complaints about the quality of the shipping and the condition of the book upon arrival. Some readers found the paper quality to be subpar, and the illustrations to be of mediocre quality. Additionally, some readers were disappointed by the superficiality of the content, with the book offering little for serious artists. Overall, "The Joy of Art" provides a basic introduction to art appreciation, but may not satisfy those looking for more in-depth or advanced insights into the subject.

    • Lack of commentary on illustrations
    • Poor shipping and book condition
    • Subpar paper quality and mediocre illustrations
    • Superficial and lacking depth for serious artists.
