Brother DS940DW Document Scanners Editorial Review
The Brother DS-620 portable scanner is suitable for scanning old photos, even if faded, with the caveat that it may end up with some banding and noise, unlike a high-dynamic-range camera. The scanner is good for scanning old magazines with articles worth keeping as well. It has an adjustable width guide to prevent the paper from going crooked, and the thin paper of receipts presents no problem. The scanner can scan a multiple-page document with a small document feeder that works very well, whether in a single or double-sided format. The background of the scan is black, and it works with USB or a charged battery that is replaceable with a specific part number. However, some customers find the setup process horrible, while others have found the app design outdated or that it doesn't work correctly or at all without USB. The battery in some units is also known to die in less than a year, forcing the purchase of replacement parts that can be expensive. There are compliments about the scanner's fast scanning and good quality parts, as well as having a lot of little nerdy touches, like being able to change all the settings from the control panel. The Brother DS-620 is not ideal for Mac or iPhone users, but it works well under Linux or Windows.
