    About This Item

Introducing our Italian Grana Padano Cheese, a delectable gourmet cheese sourced from the picturesque Po River Valley in Northern Italy. Made following a traditional recipe created by monks in 1000 AD, this hard cheese is a true representation of Italian culinary heritage. Each 2-pound block of our Italian Grana Padano Cheese is cut daily to ensure optimal freshness. Wrapped in protective plastic rather than vacuum-sealed, our cheese arrives with its natural rind intact.

Please note that during transportation, ice packs may melt, but rest assured that the cheese remains safe for consumption. Grana Padano cheese is often referred to as Parmesan cheese, but it boasts its own unique flavor profile. Made from cow's milk, this cooperatively-produced, pasteurized cheese has a smooth and natural rind that is extremely hard and thick. It is praised for its subtle and less salty taste compared to Parmesan, making it a versatile choice for various culinary applications. Our Italian Grana Padano Cheese is a perfect addition to your cheese platters, pasta dishes, risottos, and more.

Its delicate flavor enhances the taste of any recipe, elevating your culinary creations to new heights. And the best part? Our Grana Padano is not only of exceptional quality but also more affordable than Parmesan. Indulge in the authentic taste of Italy with our Ubaby Italian Grana Padano Cheese. Customer Questions & Answers

    • Question : What is the flavor of Grana Padano cheese?
Answer : Grana Padano cheese has a more subtle and less salty flavor than Parmesan.
    • Question : How is Grana Padano cheese made?
Answer : Grana Padano cheese is made with skimmed cow's milk from Northern Italy's Po River Valley.
    • Question : What is the price range of Grana Padano cheese?
Answer : Grana Padano cheese tends to be less expensive than Parmesan cheese.
    • Question : Where is this cheese made? Is it made and imported from Italy?
Answer : Grana Padano is made all over Italy, unlike its saltier, nuttier, more expensive cousin, Parmigiano Reggiano, which is only made in the Parma region of Rome. This particular cheese is most definitely imported, as there is no domestic counterpart.
    • Question : Your description says it is pasteurized. Grana padano should be un-pasteurized. Is this an error in the description?
Answer : Given that it's a well-aged cheese, it doesn't have to be pasteurized. However, a good friend of mine who visits Italy a lot, doesn't like Grana Padano because the production regulations are not as stringent as Parmigiano Reggiano. According to him, Grana Padano milk can come from factory farms while Parmigiano requires pastured cows.
    • Question : How to best store? Will this keep several months? Can I grate and store shredded in bags in freezer?
Answer : Freezing is best but would not grate first. Will hold up well for a month in the refrigerator.
    • Question : Is it shipped cold in a proper container?
Answer : Yes, Alma Gourmet uses ice packs and Styrofoam boxes.
    • Question : Hello, I'm going to send it to Venezuela, do I need to maintain cold?
Answer : Actually, yes you should, when I order it, it comes with a cold pack but by the time it gets to me the cold pack is melted. So it depends on how long it will take to get there, I would say if it takes a couple of days you can get away with it but still I would put it in a very large cold pack and wrap it up good.
    • Question : What is the best way to store this cheese and if I freeze some will it lose any flavor?
Answer : Put it in the fridge it will last a long time about 3 months or even longer, you can put it in the freezer but some of the flavors will be lost after a short period of time, it is best to put it in the fridge.
    • Question : What grater do you recommend for this cheese?
Answer : Any size grater will work which heads toward the large size. Also, the low blade on the food processor will swirl chunks of the cheese into ideal shredded consistency. It is great cheese, enjoy.
    • Question : Does the cheese come with the Grana Padano knife/cracker pictured in the illustration?
Answer : No, the cheese comes wrapped in plastic, in a box that had dry ice in it, there are NO utensils that come with the cheese, the cheese I got was really really good though.
    • Question : Does this Cheese come cracked naturally (with proper knives) or is it cut with saw leaving a straight edge disrupting all the veins that retain flavor?
Answer : I am not certain, since it's been a while since I used it up and grated the rest, but I do believe that it was cracked naturally. This cheese is the absolute best!!
    • Question : Is this cheese organic?
Answer : This cheese is not branded by any organic administration, but since it is a D.O.P. cheese, it assures that the cheese went through a traditional production process and comes from the specific region it was produced. Also Italy is very conservative when it comes to introducing GMOs and/or pesticide and such to their products. So the closest thing to an official organic status this cheese has is the fact that we can be sure it underwent a traditional and regional process and because of that we can assume it is as natural as an organic product.

Italian Grana Padano Cheese, 2 Pound

The Italian Grana Padano Cheese is a good option for those looking for an affordable alternative to Parmigiano Reggiano. While it may lack the extra zing and crunchy crystals found in its more expensive counterpart, this cheese still offers a pleasant taste. It has the characteristic crystal grain structure of real Grana Padano and a slight earthiness from the raw milk. It pairs well with ham and roast beef. The cheese can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 months, and freezing is also an option, although it may cause some loss of flavor. However, it's important to note that some customers received cheese that was not genuine Grana Padano and lacked the distinctive taste and qualities. Overall, this cheese provides a good value for its price point.

    Pros

    • Affordable alternative to Parmigiano Reggiano
    • Pleasant taste with crystal grain structure
    • Pairs well with ham and roast beef

    Cons

    • Some customers received cheese that was not genuine Grana Padano
    • May lack the extra zing and crunchy crystals
