The SharkTap is a reliable and easy-to-use network tap designed to provide an integrated packet stream to packet capture software. It is assembled in the USA, in New Jersey. The tap has one monitor port and two pass-through ports for internet traffic, and it requires external power. The monitor port is bidirectional, but packets that come to the tap on the monitoring port are discarded. The tap works as a bi-directional port mirror on a switch, which takes load off the switch, and it comes in handy in deep-diving into protocol analysis. Some customers have reported early problems due to a noisy voltage regulator chip and bad EEE default settings in the Broadcom switch chip. However, these issues have been fixed, and the product is very stable at this point. Overall, the SharkTap is a convenient tool for troubleshooting and network analysis, and it is highly recommended for anyone who needs to capture WAN traffic or perform inline packet capture.
