    Homer , D. C. H. Rieu Coralie Bickford-Smith (Illustrator), E. V. Rieu (Translator), Peter V. Jones (Introduction) & 2 more Poetry Editorial Review

The Penguin Clothbound Classics edition of The Odyssey has received mixed feedback from customers. While some customers were impressed with the aesthetics of the book, others were disappointed with the quality of the cover art. One customer mentioned that the cover art started wearing off after only 50% of the book had been read. In terms of the translation, opinions varied. Some readers praised the Prose and appreciated the different perspective offered by the alternative translation. However, one customer noted that it is not in epic poetic verse, which they believed to be the best way to experience Homer's work for the first time. Additionally, there were complaints about the UPC Bar Code Label being difficult to remove, leaving a sticky, non-removable dark spot on the book. This spot attracted dust and dirt, which was seen as a downside to an otherwise satisfactory edition. On a positive note, customers were generally satisfied with the contents of the book. The notes section was well-received, providing additional insights and offering a different side to the story. The binding was also regarded as strong, making it suitable for both reading and displaying on a shelf. The book was described as portable and not excessively bulky like some hardcovers. Overall, The Odyssey (Penguin Clothbound Classics) edition offers a visually appealing book with a good translation and added insights through the notes section. However, quality issues with the cover art and difficulties with removing the UPC Bar Code Label may deter some potential buyers.

    Pros

    • Visually appealing and suitable for display
    • Strong binding
    • Includes a helpful notes section

    Cons

    • Cover art may wear off easily
    • Not in epic poetic verse as some readers prefer
    • Difficulty removing UPC Bar Code Label, leaving a sticky spot on the book
