- Question : I have a 36 inch waist what size would I need?Answer : Maybe large. Get the size you normally get and size up if you think spandex is too tight. These are tight but fit great as outerwear.

They are compression shorts and are supposed to be worn right against the skin. He says they are comfortable and they keep everything in place.

I don’t use a jock underneath and I lift (squats and deadlift) wearing them under regular workout shorts. But it would probably depend on how snug they are on you. As others have pointed out they have a “pouch” built in, so they keep things in place.
