- Question : How long will it stay effective? Do filters need to be changed?Answer : Yes, there is a replaceable charcoal filter inside the body. When the charcoal becomes fully saturated with Hydrogen Sulphide in several years, you can remove the mushroom cap, pull the bag out by the handle and slide the new bag in while the unit remains on the vent. Filter needs to be changed.
- Question : How often do you need to change the filter?Answer : Even though concentrations of sewer gas vary, we see customers buy their replacement charcoal at about the 3 year timeframe. Using a lot of bleach or having multiple bathrooms off one vent can also wear the unit prematurely.
- Question : Can this be used as air admittance valve? (replace candy cane?)Answer : OdorHog Vent Pipe Filters are different from AAVs. The OdorHog has a densely packed carbon filter bed that the vent pipe breaths through. OdorHogs can be installed on the vent pipe once the candy cane is removed because they are installed upright so the carbon stays fully seated in the filter.
- Question : Why is this "not recommended for mobile or manufactured homes?"Answer : OdorHogs are heavy duty carbon filters, designed for homes that have a standard vent system that has enough positive pressure to push through the densely packed, carbon filter when you run water and or/flush toilets. The OdorHog will NOT solve your odor problem and is NOT recommended for Mobiles, Modulars, Manufactured, RV or a Food Truck.
- Question : I have sewage smells both inside near bathroom sink (even when ptrap is filled with water) and outside. Is this the right product for me?Answer : I would check the bathroom sink plumbing for a possible "air admittance valve" that may be stuck open allowing sewer gases to escape into the house. The indoor odor will not be cured with the OdorHog. It did solve my outdoor odor problem, but you will need to research the cause of your indoor problem.
