The ELM327 OBD2 USB Adapter is marketed as a diagnostic coding tool that is compatible with Ford F150, F250, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, and other vehicles. However, customer experiences with this product have been less than satisfactory. Multiple customers have expressed frustration with the lack of functionality and poor product support. One customer reported that the power wire was not properly soldered, rendering the device useless. Another customer mentioned that they were unable to find drivers or get the device to connect to their laptop. The included driver program only allowed them to uninstall drivers, rather than install them. Furthermore, customers have discovered that this adapter does not have an HS/MS CAN switch as described. This means that it does not enable programming functions and is not compatible with the popular diagnostic software, FORSCAN. The original ELM327 unit was recommended by FORSCAN, but due to cheap imitations like this, the ELM327 is no longer recommended. While the product seems to work as a basic OBDII scanner, it falls short in terms of compatibility and functionality, particularly for those looking to use advanced diagnostic features.
