I use it in a 2 1/2 gallon tank. Since it only filters the water it would probably be ok, however it will take up a reasonable amount of space in a 1 gallon tank.

Is there a sponge I can put over the intake so my little shrimps stop getting in the filter?

I think that would be pretty hard with this filter but I am not an expert by any means. The intake is in the water so if you can attach it to stay on all the time than maybe?

My water level is set at 2 inches for a baby turtle. Can I use this filter with a max of 2 inches of water?

Really don’t think it would work. I had to add more water at times for the pump to start

Can't think of a reason why not. Should work the same as in glass aquarium. Really good filter!

How deep does the water need to be to work?

The pump is ~6-7 inches so I would guess at least 10” min to get water flow

No that would bring dirty water into where the clean water is filtered. Water shouldn't go above the spout where the water comes out.

Does this oxygenate the water?

There is water flow so I’m sure it does a little.
