I'm a traveling music teacher. How quick/easily can the vibe alert be set to, say, a 1 hr hour times-up signal? Can't be fussing with a watch...

This is the watch for you. Once you set the count down timer to your desired length it starts with the press of one button. It will vibrate when it's up. To restart just push that button again. The timer function all happens from the main screen in the lcd line above the time. This is why I got this watch because I had a very specific time I needed to count down and didn't want to fuss wth menus.

Yes this watch has an audible tone.

I wish there was a slimmer gshock but most are bulky like this one?

The only minor issue I deal with is that it pulls on my wrist hairs. Otherwise it is a fine piece of machinery.

Casio Men's GD350-1B G Shock Black Watch

The Casio GD350-1CR G-Shock watch is the watch for you if you need a timepiece with a countdown timer, stopwatch that counts up, "daily" or "one-time" alarm settings, and vibrating alert features. With its negative display, this watch has excellent legibility in any light, and the backlight is also Conspicuously bright. The wings on the inside back of the band provide enhanced comfort during extended wear periods, but there's no step counter on this watch. Also, the package was not impressive. Still, this chunky piece of machinery pulls on wrist hair, and it might be beneficial to have a slim G-Shock watch. The watch comes in a matte finish, and battery life might extend to years as it has the largest battery of the G-Shock line, the CR2032.
