Shirakiku White Editorial Review

This Japanese short grain rice is grown in Sacramento, California, and is of mid-level quality compared to high-grade Japanese koshihikari rice. The rice is Japonica, which is used in a lot of Asian cuisine. The 4.4 lb/2 kg bag yields approximately 8 to 10 cups of uncooked rice, or 24 to 30 cups of cooked rice. It is primarily used for sushi but can be applied in other dishes as well. The rice has a nice texture and firmness and can be used in a variety of different ways. Customer experience: - One reviewer claimed that the rice they received was terrible, with many mildewed grains, and will never buy again. - Another reviewer stated that this is their go-to Japanese rice and that the packaging and shipping were great. - A positive sentiment was expressed by a reviewer who stated that the rice is fresh and of good quality, with a clear grain, and that it has a nice texture and firmness. - One reviewer claimed a price hike of 45%, causing them to replace this rice with Rose rice. - Some reviewers mentioned that they received different batches, but it did not make much difference to them. - Another reviewer praised the rice's taste and texture and admitted they didn't know why homemade fried rice finally tasted like restaurant quality. - A reviewer didn't like this rice compared to others for regular consumption, but mentioned it was perfect in a soup.

Pros

  • Nice texture and firmness, useful in multiple dishes
  • This rice is excellent for sushi.
  • Fairly sticky in texture

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Qualitatively not as premium as high-grade koshihikari rice from Japan.
  • Quality can be inconsistent.
