BPA-free sturdy plastic. I like it because it's much easier for me due to being lighter weight and shatter-resistant.

This thing is a monster, it creates the smoothest hazelnut butter and it chops vegetables beautifully. Not tried all the functions but so far it’s been great. Only problem is with small quantities. It doesn’t work well if there’s not enough stuff in there.

Does it make celery juice?

You actually can use this as an extractor. You can put one inch pieces of fruit or vegetables with a water and make an extraction. For example, 2 celery stalks and about 8 ounces of water will make celery juice.

Yes, the blades are purposely angled different by design. I've had similar products made the same way.

Base has black gook coming from it and getting into the pitcher. Why is this?

I would recommend replacing the rotor blade base. It sounds as though that may have a torn gasket allowing ingredients to leak out and travel underneath.
