Yes, they are perfect for that. However, I wished I had gotten the longer ones as far as ease of use, but they work great and make trimming those so much easier!

Are both blades the same length?

No. The hook extends a fraction beyond the blade, but the blade is long enough to clip the thread caught in the hook.
