What are the differences between the first gen Uni-Fi and the UB52?

The UB52 has all newly designed speakers and a crossover revision, essentially creating an all new speaker design with similar sound characteristics to the UB5, It also is front ported, the older UB5 was rear ported. The sound signature is very similar between the two models, so that they would integrate OK in a surround system, for example. However, they are not identical sounding. In my opinion, I feel the midrange is a little more recessed, and the bass is not as prominent in the UB52. I also note a bit of harshness in female singer voices, and instruments in this same frequency region (some may call this more detailed, I call it annoying), which I think possibly is related to the redesigned tweeter being crossed over too low from the midrange in the UB52. Andrew Jones may disagree with me on this, though. Otherwise these are very good sounding speakers, and image well. For these reasons, I prefer the previous generation UB5's, which to my ears are close to the ideal compromise for sound to price performance, and are now my standard for comparison with similar price/performance speakers.

Will the Cambridge axr100 drive them with no problems?

Your AXR100 will have no problem at all driving the UB52's.

I’d install banana clips on the wires but I think you just finger tighten otherwi.

I have a pioneer vsx-90 av receiver 8 ohms & 100 watts per channel. Will this do these speakers justice?

It can power these speakers and they will sound ok. A higher-end receiver or amplifier will really make these speakers sing.

I have a pair of debut 2.0 b6.2. would it be worth the money to upgrade to the uni-fi 2.0 ub52's?

You could listen to the two reviews by Cheap Audio Guy on youtube. I happened to be buying when he reviewed the newer one and am very happy. There would be some character differences, but basically you are comparing two very good speakers from the same designer. I think if you are not happy with what you have, you would go for a bigger change based on what you are disappointed with.

Can anyone recommend affordable stands that work well with these? Thx.
