- Question : Is this real blue glass or a blue coating that will come off over time?Answer : The glass for this feeder is painted and should not peel.
- Question : Is there something that can be done to prevent rusting of the base? Can a replacement base only be purchased in the event I’d like a replacement?Answer : We recommend frequent cleaning for a feeder to keep it in top condition. Replacement bases are not available for this model. It has a one year replacement policy.
- Question : Is there any possible way to order 2 wide mouth bottoms that go with those feeders. I have two antique glass tops that have lost their bottoms?Answer : Replacement parts are not available for this feeder.
- Question : What am I doing wrong? I have to tap/shake the feeder every couple of days to get the liquid to go into the base.Answer : From this description, it sounds as if the feeder has too much of a vacuum seal. Slightly loosening the base from the bottle will help resolve this.
- Question : Is there any way to completely fill this feeder? When the bottle is filled and then inverted with the bottom attached, about half fills the reservoir.Answer : This feeder has a 16 ounce nectar capacity. We recommend filling it as close to this level as possible.
- Question : Does the feeder part rust?Answer : I haven't seen any rust after 3 weeks. At least none that I can notice. I will be refilling soon and will inspect it very carefully and report if I see some. The materials looked brass and stainless. I certainly hope so anyway. I agree with the other commend about an ant moat on top. Where I live the red ants came in extremely large numbers. The moat stopped them entirely. I built my own moat. I cut off the bottom of a plastic spice jar, used a cork, put a thick wire through. After three weeks of use I am very pleased with it. The birds came out of nowhere and a group of them play, fight, frolic about all around my front porch. I bought a second. I now have two of these feeders on either end of my porch. As far as screwing it on, yes it's a little bit tricky. Just do it upside down, of course, in the kitchen sink where you fill it. Then carry the feeder upside down to the outside. Flip it over the ground, in case a bit spills, near where you hang it outdoors.
- Question : The feeder we bought allows all of the liquid to leak out. Should there have been a gasket provided to line the base and avoid leaking?Answer : This feeder is not designed with a gasket. When the feeder is quickly inverted upright after filling, assembled tightly, hung level and sheltered from the direct sunlight the feeder should not leak.
