They work fine for taking the beard down to stubble, however, razor burn can be caused by pushing too hard against the skin, having very dry skin, or repeatedly raking the cutting head against the grain of your beard.

We use this all the time on my head. Works great!

The size 4 is too short but the 5 is too long. Can I get something in between? Why does there seem to be such a difference?

This trimmer comes with 8 facial hair stubble T-blade guides and 4 long hair cutting T-blade guides. Wahl does have a complete set of longer guides for hair cuts. #58022-1102.
