Question : What is the recommended pump capacity for Aqua Skim?
Answer : The recommended pump capacity is between 1600 to 3500 GPH.
Question : What is the effective pond surface for Aqua Skim?
Answer : The effective pond surface is 270 sq. Ft.
Question : What are the different tubing connectors available for Aqua Skim?
Answer : The tubing connector options are 1 in., 1 1/4 in., 1 1/2 in.
Question : The float portion of our new Aquaskim is floating too high in the water so it is not skimming. Is there a way to fix this?
Answer : The Aquaskim 40" can be used in as little as 12" of water with some slight modifications. You would have to remove the lower standpipe or support tube and cut or trim the desired amount from the upper standpipe to make this work. Both standpipes have a locking collar that will attach to the base. You will also have to leave enough of the standpipe to allow for water fluctuations if that scenario is of major concern. You can also reach out to the manufacturer for further insight. I hope you find some of this helpful!
Question : Can this be attached to a 3" bottom drain?
Answer : I imagine it could with the proper adapters but I would be concerned with the amount of water drawing through it. A 3" drain may pull substantial water and cause it to malfunction. Check the gallons per hour of flow through your drain against the running recommendations on the skimmer. I have mine working with a pump at approximately 2200 gph.
Question : Can this tube be extended to say 32inch in height?
Answer : My pond is 35" deep and it works just fine with some length to spare.
Question : Anyone have problems with fish getting sucked in? My koi are still small <6 inches, worried about fish getting caught in it and hurt.
Answer : I have small goldfish and koi in my pond and maybe once or twice per year a fish gets in there. Not a serious problem though. They stay alive for quite some time in the basket so if you check it daily you can usually rescue them before they die.
Question : Will this skimmer work with Laguna 1400 pressure flo (960 GPH)?
Answer : The maximum flow rate for this skimmer is 4200 gph. A flow rate of only 960 gph or less will mean that the draw into the skimmer will not be swift or strong. It will still collect debris but not as quickly as it would if your pump were a little stronger.
Question : Does this come with a pump? If not, what pump should I use?
Answer : No, it does not come with a pump. The pump you chose should be based on the size of your pond. I have a very large pond so I use a Hayward 3/4hp pool pump with an Oase 4000 filter. Oase sells smaller pumps, again you want to be sure it will keep up with the size of your pond, and work with the conditions of the pond. For example, if there is a dirt bottom or a lot of sludge, then you may not want an in-pond pump.
Question : Does this adjust to the water level by itself?
Answer : This product has a floating weir that will adjust itself up to 6" depending on the water level. The main trunk of the skimmer is telescopically adjustable from 8"-15" on a single riser, and 15"-22" on a double riser.
Question : What is the diameter of the skimmer basket?
Answer : The skimmer opening is roughly 6 inches.
Question : I bought this skimmer and it is too high for my water level... has anyone cut it down in size yet maintain the ability to adjust to water level changes?
Answer : Yes, the Aquaskim can be cut down. The manual shows how to take the riser apart to expose a section that is not threaded so you can cut that section shorter and still re-assemble the unit.
