The gd30ce has mahogany back sides vs the gd51ce has rosewood back sides. There might be a few other minor differences im not sure of. I would play them in a store and see which you like better!!

What is the difference between this one and the $1000 one?

Is the $1000 one a 12-String? I bought this one about 8 months ago and have been completely satisfied and impressed with it. It holds tune better than other 12-strings I've worked with and it sounds AMAZING... If you're serious about a quality yet affordable 12-String, you won't be disappointed with this one.

Is the body solid or laminate?

The one I order from them came damaged so I returned it and ended up buying it at guitar center for $50 dollars less.

I got burned with a Vangoa where the front isn't braced enough and the bridge is visibly pulling it up. Is this well-constructed for 12-str tension?

I own one I was skeptical but it is a good popular brand. U get what u pay for. I love mine. Have no problems.
