Yes, no problem. It is perfect for that. The tape already has small holes, sticks, and breathes very well. You can wear it comfortably all day.

I tried it, but it was too hard to remove. I felt I was doing more damage.

Do you mean hair extensions? If so, I don't think this would work well. This is medical tape for bandages.

Can I put this right over a cut (fresh or not) or do I need to put some gauze or something on first and then secure it with this tape?

The tape has little holes (very tiny), so it may bleed through a new cut, and an old cut it would pull off a scab. You should probably use gauze with it. It stretches and is very secure in water or sweat and other similar conditions. Hope this helps.
