Question : How long does the membrane microfilter last?

Question : What is the weight of the LifeStraw?

Question : If I pee into a bowl and use the filter on that, will it taste like water or pee?
Answer : The filtered urine will still taste like pee due to the presence of salt, urea, and other substances. Drinking urine in a survival situation is okay up to a point. It is best to drink urine early in the survival situation since it will be less concentrated and less toxic. Highly concentrated urine is probably worse than not drinking it at all.
Question : How do I know when LifeStraw has reached its limit of filtering water?
Answer : Take a 1 liter jar, fill it with water, and draw out the water using the straw a mouthful at a time. Count how many mouthfuls you get from a liter of water, then multiply that figure by 1,000. Men, women, and children may have different figures.
Question : What is the shelf life of LifeStraw?
Answer : There is no shelf life listed for LifeStraw. It was originally given a shelf life as it was designed for constant outdoor usage in Africa where the sun would degrade the plastic over time. If you use it and store it, store it uncapped so it can dry out thoroughly.
Question : Will LifeStraw work on low-level radiation contaminated water from the tap?
Answer : No, LifeStraw is not effective in filtering radiation contaminated water. If you switch to high-level radiation water, most of the bacteria and viruses should be dead.
Question : Can I use LifeStraw to filter tap water in India, Cambodia, and Senegal?
Answer : LifeStraw is supposed to be able to filter all kinds of water to a point of 99.9% purity, including tap water in third-world countries. However, it may not eliminate smells from the water it filters, so while the water may be clean, it may not be appetizing. Also, LifeStraw does NOT filter heavy metals, so it would be ineffective to produce drinkable water from tap water in areas where heavy metals are the primary contaminant.
Question : Is there an accessory to filter water before putting it into my bottle instead of putting bad water in it?
Answer : Buy an MSR or Katadyn filter that comes with an attachment to pump the filtered water into a water bottle if you want to directly drink from the stream using it as a straw.
