- Question : I was looking for 'audition' range. will these be the same/similar?Answer : No. The audition range is just four individual pencils, one each of the Natural, 602, Pearl and Matte as a tester pack. This is a dozen of the 602s.
- Question : Is this for 12 pencils of the same grade?Answer : Yes. A set of 12 Blackwing 602 pencils contains 12 identical pencils. They are roughly a 2B pencil of very high quality.
- Question : Why does the photo show different grades when these are all just a single grade?Answer : Those other answers are daft - it’s just to show the range of other palomino pencils available. Of course you can add different pressure, but that’s not what the image is showing. If you want a soft pencil with an extremely dark mark, the blackwing is what you’re after. The 602 is a more multi purpose pencil somewhere between a 2B and an HB. I have loads of pencils and find the 602 to be used more than the blackwing - the latter is very much a drawing pencil. (my all time favourite and general go to pencil is the Tombow Mono though).

Blackwing Wooden Lead Pencils Editorial Review
The Palomino Blackwing 602 pencils are Considered by most to be excellent writing tools. They are made with smooth Japanese graphite and can be seen as a revival of the Eberhard Faber Blackwing 602. They come in a beautiful packaging box that smells like a cedar closet. The Blackwing pencils offer a luxurious feel and write faster than other pencils. However, they are costly compared to average pencils but are worth their price. Also, these pencils can smear easily on paper and hands, but they can be sharpened with a traditional or two-step sharpener. The lead is a 2B lead which is softer and darker than the #2, making it perfect for drawing and sketching. Despite the few negative reviews about receiving less than the amount of pencils ordered or broken leads/graphite shaft, overall, many customers have a positive response to using these pencils:
