Is this good for covid-19 protection? Are all n-95 masks equal when it comes to covid-19?

The 8210 N95 are very safe vs. Covid-19. They are FDA approved for health care workers during the Pandemic. The 8511's have vent so you would have to wear a 3 ply as well to protect other people.

Is the plastic bag holding the masks inside the box supposed to be opened?

Yes the bags can be open. The masks are not sterile. Some of the 3M masks do not even come in a bag like the 1860 that are produced in the USA. Remember most of these masks were never designed to wear the way we wear them but to prevent dust from industrial work!!

How can we know these are not counterfeit?

I don't know if it really 3M, but fit and rubber bands are awful. Real 3M I had were softer and noise clip was better. Makes me believe it is probably counterfeit, I would not buy it again!!! Plus it is not returnable

Which other part number and brand is recommended?

It really depends on what you are doing, the N95 I use for dust and fiberglass, it is also recommended for the virus. If you are painting cars you need much better.

Is this mask comfortable to wear?

Yes, this is the respirator I wore for over 20 years in power plant

Besides the price what's the difference between the standard and plus pro style?

The 3M Personal Protective Equipment 8210 Particulate Respirator is a must-have, especially during this pandemic, and is equipped with all of the features necessary to ensure safety from harmful particulates in the air. It comes in a pack of 20 and has a two-strap cup style design. The lightweight cushioning nose foam feels comfortable to wear and does not cause any irritation.
