Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question : Can this be used for hand embroidery?
Answer : I would not use this for hand embroidery because the problem I see is that the backing is paper and the inside is sticky self adhesive glue trying to put a needle through it would be hard. The amout of pressure you need to do a beautiful design with a needle would require a sewing machine!
  • Question : Does this dissolve in water or when washed?
Answer : It is kind of tearway embroidery stabilizer which means that it is removed by torn away. It will not dissolve in water.
  • Question : Will it keep material from puckering doing hand-stitched embroidery?
Answer : That’s the purpose: preventing puckering. Hoop securely & tick project on sticky surface. For hand work, don’t put pressure on work to stretch the project.
  • Question : New to quilting...how is the fabric applied to the stabilizer?
Answer : Are you embroidering? Are you using a quilting square of fabric?I am answering from a machine embroidery perspective. Fabric is placed on the sticky self-adhesive that has been placed on a fast frame or within an embroidery hoop. The fabric sticks to the stabilizer. thanks.
  • Question : How do I find the sticky part of this stabilizer? I am new to this and it is not the same as the one I was given in class.
Answer : Hoop it with the smooth side up- once it’s hooped , score the smooth side and peel it away to expose the sticky side. The rough side helps it stay in the hoop. Hope this helps

New brothread Stabilizers Editorial Review

New brothread Sticky Self-Adhesive Tear Away Embroidery Stabilizer Backing is designed to prevent puckering of fabric during embroidery work. It is made of paper material with a self-adhesive sticky surface that is placed on a fast frame or within an embroidery hoop. The fabric is stuck onto the stabilizer while embroidery work is carried out. It is removed by tearing away the paper but will not dissolve in water. The stabilizer is suitable for napped fabric, hoop less embroidery and machine embroidery projects. However, it is not recommended for hand embroidery projects as putting a needle through the paper material could be difficult. The smooth side of the stabilizer should be hooped with the rough side helping it stay in the hoop. Customer experience suggests that New brothread Sticky Self-Adhesive Tear Away Embroidery Stabilizer Backing has its Pros and Cons. It has great adhesion and is suitable for large and bulky items which can’t be hooped. It also works well for machine embroidery and is cheaper compared to other stabilizers. However, customers have reported that the adhesive gums up on the needle, causing thread breaks and making it difficult to stitch. Some have also experienced sticky residue on their embroidery work, making it difficult to remove the stabilizer. Others have reported defective rolls with excessive adhesive.
