It is not strong enough to cut through tough roots, such as ivy or bamboo. Customers have reported that tall weeds and grass wind up quickly in the mechanism, but have not had anything wind up so tight that it affects the function of the machine. The mechanics being down next to the tiller wheel limit the space and restrict the depth of this compact tiller. This tiller comes with a 24V battery that works for most flower beds around the house, but some customers recommend a larger amp battery for longer run time.
