- Question : Is this .001 straight laying flat or just on the edge?Answer : It is flat along the machined edge, the faces of the tool are coated in a paint/sealant that has some coarseness in it, for grip more than likely. You could use it lying down, but I do not personally believe that it would provide accurate results. The bar I received appeared true, but due to the coating from the MFG, it was not anything I checked or felt needed to be checked, as the only edge that is true to .001 would be the precision ground edge.
- Question : Is this ideal for resurfacing engine blocks, and what material is it made of?Answer : This is a steel steel straight edge. It will work perfectly for heads and blocks that are not longer than 24 inches (most four cylinder and V-6 and V-8 engines). I tested mine on a granite surface plate and found it to be near perfect. It also comes with a plastic edge protector and a hole drilled for hanging on the wall. Good value for the money.
