Justice League: The New Frontier

**** "Justice League: The New Frontier (Two-Disc Special Edition)" is a captivating animated film that successfully rekindles the spirit of the Silver Age of DC Comics. The film is framed within the historical context of the 1950s, a time marked by Communist fear, McCarthyism, and the onset of racial equality struggles, adding depth to the storyline. Based on Darwyn Cooke's acclaimed graphic novel, this adaptation is celebrated for its nostalgic homage to beloved characters like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern Hal Jordan, and Wonder Woman, while also introducing newer superheroes such as Adam Strange and Green Arrow. The film's narrative shifts into action when a powerful new villain, referred to as the 'Centre', rises to challenge the new league of heroes, pushing them to collaborate in a climactic confrontation. While some characters have limited screen time, the vast array of heroes delivers an exciting sense of the expansive DC universe. One of the standout features of the film is its voice cast, which has been highly praised. The performances by David Boreanaz as Green Lantern, Neil Patrick Harris as the Flash, and Jeremy Sisto’s compelling portrayal of Batman have left a lasting impression on audiences. The inclusion of commentary tracks and a documentary on Darwyn Cooke within the special edition lends the viewer additional layers of appreciation for the craft behind the animation, making the experience not only entertaining but intellectually fulfilling. However, some viewers opine that while the movie is impressive, it lacks the impactful punch of the original comic series and might benefit from a more extensive exploration of its characters and themes, especially given its pioneering status in the direct-to-DVD film format. Despite these critiques, "Justice League: The New Frontier" stands as a beloved entry in the DC animated films lineup, appealing to both nostalgic fans and newcomers alike. **
