Not purple. Looks right in image to me.

I have not experienced any slipping. It's a good mat and I am pleased.

What does 16p free stand for? It states it in the description.

It means that the mat material is free from the 16 phthalates- in other words it is made from non-toxic material.

Is this solely intended for yoga or can you use for cardio as well?

Yes, it can be used for cardio. I do my jumping jacks, burpies, knee ups, etc.

Will this protect my carpet so that it lasts longer? I typically just exercise on our carpet, but it’s wearing it out.

I don't see why it wouldn't. I bought this about a year ago and have it over a hardwood floor. To keep the mat's wear, I workout with grip socks versus sneakers - that could help extend the life of it, too. Mine is still in pretty good shape, with only a couple snags in it from my dog also using it.
