Can birds perch on the base while drinking?

Hummingbirds are able to feed while in flight, however; the base of the feeder does give enough room for them to perch as they feed.

Will the metal part rust?

The inside part of the top lid may rust. It's recommended to get a replacement.

Is the copper portion 100% copper or is it tin covered in copper?

It's not guaranteed to be 100% copper but it has a clear coat on it that has kept it in good condition. No signs of rust after 6 months of use.

Is the bottle safe for the dishwasher?

It's not recommended to wash the bottle in the dishwasher. Use warm water and a mild dish detergent instead.

How do you screw the bottom onto the bottle?
