It is battery operated, does not come with or have a need for a cord, my battery lasts approximately a year and a half, each battery costs approximately $2.50.

Can you use a different kind of test strips with this lite butterfly monitor? i'm having trouble getting my strips in a timely fashion.

My understanding is that this monitor is for Freestyle Freedom Lite strips only

Not 100% sure, but very close. I would bet it does. My device says Freestyle - freedom lite, and I am using freestyle lite test strips, and they work just fine.
