If it's a USB 2.0 hard drive- yes, absolutely. If it's a USB 3.0 hard drive, then still yes, with a caveat. It *will* work with a USB 3.0 drive- however, you will get USB 2.0 speeds.

The description says it can be used as a stand. Does this mean that it will 'hold' its position? How much weight can it hold at a 45-degree angle?

The description seems to be an error by the seller. These are just extremely short USB 2.x cables with no special properties other than being extremely short.

What gauge are the wires?

There are several wires inside the cable. The actual cable is the same size as the USB cords used on devices that are hooked up to a computer.

Will a flash drive work with this in a factory-installed car stereo system?

Yes, we have used it on a flash drive that is in the player on our Harley radio.

Can I use this with a Raspberry Pi connected to a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for a DIY handheld?

They warn about using them with power banks most likely because the wires are a bit thin.

It will be alright when using with a powered hub. These are just the equivalent of extension cords between USB devices.

No, these are not gooseneck. They are just normal cables.
