Anyone else have trouble with premature peeling?

Yes, but not with this lamp. It works great if you prep your nails well by cleaning with acetone and applying a pH nail prep before putting on the base.

I usually pay to get gel nail polish. It is getting expensive. How exactly does this work? Do you use gel nail polish? Top coat? How do you remove it?

This lamp is for gel and shellac polishes. You polish your nails as usual, applying thin coats of gel. The lamp cures UV and LED curable builder gels as well. To remove gel polishes, soak nails in acetone or gel polish remover for 5 to 10 minutes, then peel it off. You may need to use a topcoat for most gel polishes.

Is this a cordless use lamp?

No, it comes with a detachable cord.
