Question : What kind of alerts does the sensor provide?
Answer : The sensor provides instant phone alerts if a door, window, cabinet, or drawer opens unexpectedly.
Question : What devices is the sensor compatible with?
Answer : It is best with SmartThings App and Aeotec Smart Home Hub / Samsung SmartThings Hub or compatible device with SmartThings Hub functionality. It works with other compatible Zigbee hubs as well.
Question : Do connected devices come included with the sensor?
Answer : No, connected devices are sold separately.
Question : Why the jump in price? These were $25 (sometimes $20) with Samsung.
Answer : The prices of most quality, IoT goods have risen across 2020 and 2021 owing to the impact of COVID upon all elements of the supply chain; wireless chips demand a far higher price than normal, else remain unavailable, and logistics and transit costs are significantly higher. Between Aeotec and Samsung, we are vastly different businesses with different models and different scale. Our model is built solely on IoT related products. On account of of not manufacturing millions of white goods per annum, we\'re unable to command the same price at the time of manufacture and this is reflected in our pricing.
Question : What is the max temperature it can withstand?
Answer : While electronic devices may work fine at higher temperatures, it is not recommended. Electrical wiring and devices can usually withstand 140-150 degrees for under 30 minutes with no real damage. But things get rather odd when electronics heat up over 150 for prolonged periods of time. It is advised not to let the device operate over 110 degrees F. Each product is normally tested for normal living environments so that would be between 50 to 100 degrees F (often indoor temps). Some are rated for more extreme weather but a lot of factors go into play here. Casing, quality of materials, quality of the build, plastic vs metal.
Question : Do you need a hub for this to work or can I connect it to my echo or smart things on my phone?
Answer : You can connect it to a SmartThings Hub or other similar devices for it to work.
Question : Are these sensors waterproof ? Can they be installed outside on a gate ?
Answer : These sensors may not be outdoor rated but they can hold up well in the rain, heat, and cold. It can be used outdoor as well as indoor.
Question : Can I set it to alert me if the door is left open for 2 mins?
Answer : You can add a pre-condition in the SmartThings app for this. It is just a sensor that connects to and is controlled by the Hub it’s connected to.
Question : Can this be used as a presence sensor? I want to use this as a secondary information point to a multi-conditional automation to open a garage door.
Answer : No, it doesn’t detect motion. It can be used to detect a normal window/door sensor with the magnet or as a tilt sensor for a garage overhead door.
