Silverseal is an over the counter hydrogel wound dressing that was originally a behind the counter hospital product. It is useful for minor burns and wounds, as well as diabetic foot ulcers. However, for more severe wounds, it is important to see a doctor. The product comes with blue squares that need to be peeled off, and the clear plastic is meant to be a topper to help keep moisture in. The gel side that has the blue layer removed goes onto the wound. Customers who used Silverseal for burns found that it was effective in helping the wound heal, and that it helped with pain relief and preventing infection. For road rash and other abrasions, the product was not as effective. However, Silverseal was also used for scrapes, cuts, and even poison ivy with good results. Some customers used it for their emergency preparedness kit due to its long shelf life. Others used it to treat lymphadema as well. The only downside was that the product doesn't work as well under gauze and can be difficult to remove if applied directly to a joint.
