As far as I know, it doesn't turn off. We got ours awhile ago, and it's still going strong. It works well and has lots of features, but we do have to hide it in a drawer since it beeps every hour.

No. It does not have a countdown. But, for your basic stopwatch with split timer available, it's a great deal for the money.

What battery does it use?

No idea. It comes included in unit. lasts for years....

How do you set the time?

Press the top (mode) button until you see the time displayed with flashing seconds. Press the right (Start/Stop) button repeatedly to set seconds. Ea time you press the button the seconds will increase by one. Press the left (Split/Reset) button to move to the flashing minutes display. Press the right button repeatedly to set the minutes..,,and so on. When finished press the top button to exit the setup mode.

The stopwatch is a simple and cheap device that features a clock and an alarm. It is easy to set up and use for general purposes, such as work or BBQ parties. However, the instructions on how to use it and set it up are not clear, and customers may need to experiment with the device to figure out its operations. The device beeps every hour by default, which some customers find annoying, but you can turn off the sound using the Split/Reset and Mode buttons. While some customers found the stopwatch to be durable - after being wet it didn't stop - others were not so lucky, with one customer stating that it didn't work at all after getting wet.
