Could a five year old handle this suitcase?

Depends on how big the 5 year old is. It’s pretty light but the height might be an issue for that age.

The picture shows pink but the description says mint. What color is it? Pink or mint?

It is both colors each side is one or the other. Regardless of the color it really was not a solid bag I would not purchase it I think you can get something a little bit more sturdy. I will pass on this.

Does this suitcase fit Deltas carry on measurements, which are 22x14x9?

It didn't fit United's. The hump on the back for the handle is what created the oversize. We were allowed to carry on every stop of a 4 leg route but the last from EWR to IAH. The gate agent let one go through and made us check the other one at the gate at no expense. In the future, we won't take the chance with these as carry on.

Is there a cover available?

I’m not sure what sort of cover your are referring to but this carry on is a hard shell. There is no cloth exposed so nothing that would need to be covered. The outside can be easily wiped down, if needed.

Allowed on Alaska Airlines as of 2018?

I just used mine as a carry-on bag on Southwest and also on United, had no issues whatsoever. Check Alaska Airlines baggage size to make sure.
