Boone is a well-researched and highly readable biography of Daniel Boone, the seminal figure in the westward expansion of the United States from 1750-1820. The book offers a comprehensive historical account of early Kentucky and good insight into life in the late 1700s. The author provides a new and brilliant insight into Boone and debunks the mythical superman status that Boone gained in American folk lore. While the writing is not of the same caliber as other biographies by authors such as David McCollough or Walter Isaacson, it is still readable. One downside is that the author engages in too much speculation and "mind-reading" in attempting to paint a picture of Boone. Overall, Boone is an interesting account of one of America's great pioneers and a good jumping-off point for those who don't know much about him.
