The OWC ThunderBay 8 is a Thunderbolt 3-connected, eight-bay JBOD enclosure that's fast, flexible and quiet, overall making it a great option for users in need of mass storage. Its SoftRaid software is Considered adequate, but there is some learning curve for users to get used to. Setting up the ThunderBay 8 is fairly simple - install drives, connect power and Thunderbolt 3 cables, and you're set. The drives in the 112-capacity edition are 14 TB Toshiba HDDs, while the built solution from OWC provides 144 TBs of data storage. However, there are some downsides to this storage enclosure. Many users have found the ThunderBay 8 to be loud even when idle, making it the loudest thing in their room. Additionally, it is suggested that users invest in a fan upgrade as the enclosure is heavy and may be uncomfortable to carry. Users also find it disappointing that there are no filters on the enclosure; to compensate for that, users have had to create do-it-yourself solutions for their system.
