When She Returned Paperback – October 15, 2019

**** "When She Returned" delivers a compelling exploration of family dynamics disrupted by the long-lasting effects of cult influence. Readers have responded with generally positive sentiments, highlighting the storyline's capacity to provoke thought and engagement. The narrative follows Kate, who escapes a cult after eleven years, only to find her family irrevocably changed in her absence. Through a multi-faceted approach, the author dives deep into characters that are rich, albeit sometimes criticized for their overly idealistic depictions. This sentiment was noted particularly about Meredith, the nurturing stepmother, and other family members who lack distinct flaws, giving a somewhat "Leave It To Beaver" vibe. Characters like Kate, representing the trauma and psychological scars of her prolonged isolation within a cult, add depth to the story. This juxtaposition of Kate's challenging reintegration into a family that has moved on, yet is still tethered to her influence, creates a riveting tension. Readers appreciated the unique perspective on cult dynamics and the realistic portrayal of the struggles faced by ex-cult members trying to acclimate back into society. While the book was engaging and informative, some readers expressed their desire for a more conclusive ending. There were critiques regarding the narrative's failure to thoroughly address the outcomes for all characters involved, particularly in relation to Kate's past experiences. Despite these concerns, the overall reception indicates that this book resonates, stirring questions and reflections long after the final page has been turned. **
