The plates are made of titanium with a 24K gold coating and heat up to around 400 degrees Fahrenheit. There is no actual temperature gauge, only low, medium, and high settings. The iron provides gentle crimps that give hair volume and are not very noticeable. It is easy to use, heats up quickly, and is of quality build. However, the product received in the mail by one customer looked as though it had been kept in rusty storage. Others had trouble using the iron with thick, coarse hair.
